New Delhi, Aug 17: Highlighting the works done under his government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a 90-minute long speech on Independence Day. The political rivals like Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were quick to take a dig at Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech for lacking intent and policy. But the lengthy speech of PM Narendra Modi was not only ‘boring’, but also full of factual errors. In his Independence Day speech, Narendra Modi claimed that several villages like Nagla Fatela got the electricity under his regime. But it was not all true.
“Out of 18,000 villages, more than 10,000 villages have been electrified. From Delhi it takes 3 hours to reach Nagla Fatela village in Hathras, but it took 70 years for electricity to reach there. I have been told they are with us, watching this celebration of Independence Day,” said Narendra Modi in his speech. In order to back the claim of Modi, Twitter handle PMO tweeted a photo of a group of people allegedly watching Prime Minister’s speech on a TV set in Nagla Fatela village. “People of Nagla Phatela watching the Independence Day celebrations for the first time. More power to them. :)” @PMOIndia tweeted. An excited Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal also tweeted several pictures of people watching Modi’s speech on TV in Nagla Fatela village. But the gram pradhan of Nagla Fatela village punctured claims of Modi and his minister and said in reality there is no power in the village.
“No programme was organized in our village. The picture with children watching the Independence Day programme does not belong to our village,” the gram pradhan was quoted as saying by the Financial Express. The residents of the village admitted that poles have been set up and electricity metres have been installed in the houses but there is no power supply. An embarrassed PMO then deleted the above mentioned tweet. What brought more embarrassment for the Modi government is the clarification issued by the Power Ministry regarding the electrification of Nagla Fatela village.
In the clarification titled as ‘Electrification of Village Nagla Fatela, Hathras -Facts at a Glance’, Modi-government even admitted that the electrification of Nagla Fatela village was proposed by the Uttar Pradesh’s Akhilesh Yadav government and the Detailed Project Report was sanctioned by the UPA government on 20.12.2013 and sanction letter was released by Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) on 06.01.2014. It clearly indicates Modi government haven’t played any role in this.
