Nagpur: A teenager allegedly committed suicide in Nagpur district of Maharashtra after his mother took away a mobile phone from him. The 14-year-old was addicted to video games, police said on Wednesday. The minor lived in a rented house in Mahal area with his mother and elder sister. As per the police, he had stopped attending school since a year and used to remain glued to the mobile phone for hours, playing video games. His mother and sister worked in private companies and most of the time, the boy used to stay alone at home, he said.

On Monday, the minor’s mother had to go to Mumbai and asked him to give the mobile phone to her. As he refused, the woman snatched the handset from him and left in the afternoon.

Disturbed over not being able to play video games on the mobile phone, he allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan using a bed sheet at their home.

The incident came to light when the boy’s sister returned home.

The police sent the body for postmortem and registered a case in connection with the incident.
