Mumbai, July 10: Out of the eight people who drowned in Nagpur after a boat capsized in Vena Dam, bodies of 5 people have been found. However, bodies of 3 people were still missing and the search operation for the same was going on. The tragic incident took place when the people in the boat were trying to click a selfie. 11 people went to celebrate a birthday party at Vena Dam. Three people who were rescued by the local residents were from Wyadpeth village. After receiving information on the incident, staffers from Kalmeshwar and neighbouring police stations rushed to the spot.
According to reports, boatmen Roshan Bawne, Roshan Khandare, and Akshay Khandare were approached by eight people to take them to the dam. When they left the shore, the group started clicking selfies. However, when the group started shouting and creating ruckus at the boat, the situation went out of control. Soon, the boatmen lost control resulting in the capsizing of the boat. SP, Nagpur rural, Shailesh Balkawade said the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team was roped in the rescue. “Around 30 per cent staffers of the rural district police have been pressed into action comprising Saoner and Kalmeshwar divisions. Four officers have been supervising the entire operation to fish out the bodies,” the cop informed. “Tehsil department is providing the logistics like lights and other instruments required for the rescue operation,” he added.
