The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has started dynamic signalling tests for the inaugural driverless train on the Namma Metro Yellow Line, linking Electronics City and R V Road to Bommasandra. This 19-kilometer stretch, featuring a total of 16 metro stations, is poised to transform public transportation in the city, offering trains at 20-minute intervals. Since June 13, preliminary activities for these tests have been in progress, as confirmed by a senior BMRCL official.
The dynamic signalling tests commenced at 3 pm on Monday and are anticipated to span 2.5 months. This comprehensive testing phase involves meticulous checks to validate the seamless operation of the signalling system. It encompasses detailed data verification, integration tests, and multiple train evaluations, where trains will run in opposite directions on each track.
“As planned earlier, we began the Dynamic Signalling tests at 3 pm today. It involves a series of tests to be completed and will take 2.5 months to complete,” an official told oneindia.com.
The initial phase, detailed data checking, is expected to take 45 days. This will be followed by Integration Tests, requiring around 15 days. The process also includes multiple train tests, which involve running trains in opposite directions on each of the tracks, and will take an additional 10 days.
Namma Metro’s Yellow Line, a pivotal addition to the city’s metro network, is set to commence operations by December 2024 post the CMRS inspection and requisite approvals, according to oneindia.com. This new line will enhance connectivity with five to six trains operating at 20-minute intervals, offering a seamless travel experience.
The Yellow Line’s strategic route will notably benefit commuters journeying to and from Electronic City’s prominent technology and industrial zones, streamlining their daily commute.
Earlier this year, a driverless train system developed by CRRC (China) was introduced on the line, enhancing the metro network’s efficiency, especially for the Electronic City route. The collaboration between Titagarh and CRRC expands with the upcoming arrival of 14 train sets (84 coaches) featuring cutting-edge CBTC technology starting in August.
These advancements follow successful prototype testing last year, promising passengers a smoother and more efficient commute. The introduction of these modern trains signifies a significant leap towards a more sophisticated and reliable public transportation system, revolutionizing the commuting experience for many.
