New Delhi, Aug 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on a range of issues through his unique interactive ‘Townhall’ session. In his concluding address, Modi laid stress on technology, good governance, tourism and preventive healthcare to transform the nation. He also launched the PMO app which would further boost connectivity between the central government and the citizens.

Congratulating the people for participating in governance through MyGov.in, Modi said that it is one of the methods to strengthen democracy and make it participative in nature. “If democracy is limited to voting and choosing a government, then the spirit of democracy would not develop,” he added, saying that MyGov has proved to be a medium of grievance redressal. “Grievance Redressal is an essential component of democracy, every citizen should have their problems addressed and responded to.”

Modi stated that his government would remain committed to agenda of good governance, even if does not provide them electoral gains. “After winning elections, governments usually start thinking about how to win the next elections or what to do to get more votes next time. If good governance is not stressed on then regular life of a citizen won’t change, won’t develop.” (ALSO READ: Narendra Modi reacts to flogging of Dalits in Una, assures action against ‘gau rakshaks’)

“Development and good governance should have a balanced relation, even for a small incident anywhere, Prime Minister is targeted. Holding PM responsible for everything that happens at every level in the nation, it can be good politically…or for TRP. Every responsible person holding a position should be questioned. People should easily get what they want.”

Highlighting the success of his government, Modi said, “The world is in recession. Despite the purchasing capacity of world going down, we have a growth rate of 7.6.” But he added that India needs to make huge gains in service sector to built upon the benefits of manufacturing sector. “Tourism will boost our economy, we should try and drive our economy. If we achieve 8 per cent growth rate for 30 years then, we will be at the top.”

Modi also spoke extensively on the need of strengthening preventive health care facilities in the nation. “We need to focus on preventive and affordable health care. So much money is spent on advertising about the importance of vaccinations, and even then so many children arent vaccinated. Now Health Department is reaching out household to household to reach everyone. He have introduced insurance in budget; so that the poorest of the poor receives good health care.”

This is the first ever edition of the interactive programme organized by the PMO. The concept is a replica of the kind of interactive sessions conducted by United States President Barack Obama. Watch the live streaming of the Townhall online here.
