Varanasi, Mar 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh today. Among several programmes, the two leaders will first inaugurate Uttar Pradesh’s largest solar plant at Mirzapur and then return to Varanasi. Stay with us for LIVE updates on the visit. Reports say that Modi and Macron will visit the Deen Dayal Hastkala Sankul and interact with artisans. They will also witness a live demonstration of their crafts. The two leaders are also set to go on a boat ride in River Ganga.
Following the boat ride, Modi will host Macron for lunch at Hotel Gateway in his Lok Sabha constituency. The two will also flag off the Varanasi-Patna Intercity Express train. They will then sign several pacts and announce programmes before heading back from Varanasi in the evening.
Security has been beefed-up in Varanasi for their visit. “Paramilitary forces, Black Cat commandos and a team of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) are also present here. Our whole intelligence wing is present,” said the District Magistrate, Varanasi.
Ahead of Modi and Macron’s visit to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday reached the city to take stock of preparations. Adityanath met district officials and the police top brass. He understood the travel plans of the French President and assessed the preparedness of the visit.
Meanwhile, ahead of the visit, a group of local youths and some French nationals have formed a club to work towards improving man-to-man contact between the people of the two countries. The ‘Indo-French Friends Club’ was launched at Assi Ghat on Thursday.
