New Delhi, September 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security on Thursday morning . The main aim of the CCS meeting was to assess escalating situation on the Line of Control. The high level meeting was attended by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Army Chief General Dalbir Singh. Certain other officials were also present at the CSS meeting.
The main aim of the meeting was to assess the retaliatory reactions that could have emanated from Pakistan following the cross border strikes executed by the Indian army on the terror launch pads in Pakistan occupied kashmir. This announcement was made by Director General of Military operations, General Ranjit Singh in a press conference of the Ministry of Defence and the External Affairs Ministry. The surgical strikes and the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting on Thursday morning came after India has been calibrating a series of retaliatory responses to the dastardly militant attack in Uri that killed 18 soldiers in Kashmir. Prime Minister Modi had earlier promised to avenge the deaths of the soldiers who were killed. Some of the measures that India had taken in retaliation include, reviewing the Indus Water Treaty, contemplation of cancellation of Most Favoured nation status to Pakistan and ensuring that the SAARC summit in Islamabad is cancelled and the dipomatic isolation of Pakistan. The military strikes in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir is the first armed retaliation by India to the Uri attack.
Early on Thursday morning, it was reported that Narendra Modi chaired the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting , to assess the situation on the Line of Control after two ceasefire violations were reported within 24 hours along the border in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistani troops fired on Indian posts in Naugam also. This came hours after targeting Indian positions in Poonch. These violations could be attributed to the Indian cross border strikes on Pakistani terror launch pads.
