Narendra Modi Government at Centre Completes Four Years; Congress to Observe 'Vishwasghat Diwas'

New Delhi, May 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) completes four years in power on Saturday. On the occasion, PM Modi is expected to address a mega rally in Cuttack, Odisha whereas, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah will address a press conference today at 12.30 PM at party headquarters at 6A, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg. The Congress, on the other hand, will observe Vishwasghat Diwas (betrayal day) today.

The Prime Minister will address a public meeting at the historic Baliyatra ground at Cuttack. Modi’s visit is significant in wake of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 and Odisha Assembly Elections, scheduled for next year. The rally also becomes important for Modi as the BJP faced defeat in the recent Bijepur bypoll and certain urban polls.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made by Odisha Police in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for PM Modi’s visit to the state. The PM is likely to arrive at Biju Patnaik International Airport at 3.25 PM from where he will depart for Cuttack at 3.45 PM. Modi will reach Cuttack at 4.15 PM. After holding the rally, he will depart for Delhi from Bhubaneswar airport at 5.50 PM.

Meanwhile, a report from Malkangiri said that Maoists have put posters opposing the PM’s Odisha visit. The posters were seen at different places in Kalimela police station area of Malkangiri district, an official told PTI.

Congress to Observe ‘Betrayal Day’


The Congress will hold press conferences in 20 different cities, including New Delhi to observe Vishwasghat Diwas (betrayal day) today. Party leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ashok Gehlot and Rajdeep Surjewala will lead, Congress’s protest against BJP, from the front.

In other places, state unit presidents and All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charges will hold press conferences to mark the protest. State units have also been asked to stage protests at the district level. Senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi will also hold press conferences in Bhubaneswar and Mumbai respectively.

BJP to Launch 15-day Long Programme

To mark the fourth anniversary of the Modi government, the BJP will launch a 15-day long programme led by Amit Shah on May 27. It will be aimed at reaching out to one lakh personalities from different walks of life to highlight party’s achievements. All ministers — both from the Centre and BJP-ruled states, MPs, MLAs, mayors and all other office-bearers of the party will reach out to personalities or experts or influential people across the country.

“As part of the programme, each BJP leader will interact with at least 25 renowned people from various fields such as retired judges of the Supreme Court and high courts, retired bureaucrats, retired army personnel, sports stars, writers among others and will inform them about the achievements of the Modi government in last four years,” BJP general secretary Arun Singh said in a letter.
