New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to late former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 94th birth anniversary. Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, PM Modi shared a video clip and said that his government is committed towards creating a India that the former had dreamt of.
“Tributes to Atal Ji on his Jayanti. We reiterate our commitment towards creating the India he dreamt of,” PM Modi said in his tweet.
Besides Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind also remembered the former PM. Calling him a true Indian statesman, Kovind tweeted,”Remembering our former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on his birth anniversary. Atalji will always live on in the hearts and minds of the people of our country.”
Meanwhile, a memorial of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be dedicated to the nation today at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal. PM Modi, President Kovind and other eminent personalities are expected to attend a prayer meeting at the memorial near Rajghat, according to the ‘Atal Smriti Nyas Society’, which has developed the memorial named Sadaiv Atal.
In Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has planned to observe Vajpayee’s birth anniversary as Good Governance Day. A two-hour play, ‘Rashtra Purush Atal’, will also be staged by a 200-strong group from Maharashtra.
On Monday, on the eve of Vajpayee’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a Rs 100 commemorative coin in the memory of the former premier. Speaking at the event yesterday, PM Modi had said,”“Atal Ji wanted democracy to be supreme. He built the Jana Sangh. But, when the time came to rescue our democracy he and others went to Janata Party. Likewise, when the choice was between remaining in power or comprising on ideology, he left Janata Party and formed the BJP.”
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the 10th Prime Minister of India passed away at the age of 93 on August 16 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi after a period of prolonged illness. He was cremated on August 17 with full state honour at Smriti Sthal.
