Narendra Modi to attend Shanghai Co-operation Summit & BRICS; scheduled to make official visits to five Central Asian nations

Modi will be leaving for the official tour on July 6.

New Delhi, July 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the Shanghai Co-operation Organization (SCO) summit to be organized in Ufa, Russia along with BRICS. Prime Minister has made the decision after reportedly being invited by Russian President Vladmir Putin.

“India had formally applied for membership in SCO in September, 2014. SCO Foreign ministers met in June in Moscow, and they had a positive recommendation regarding India’s membership to the summit,” said Navjeet Sarsa, secretary, Ministry of External Affairs. Along with Russia, the Prime Minister will also be meeting the dignitaries of five other Central Asian nations. (READ: Narendar Modi tells BRICS leaders: Repatriation of black money key priority)

Modi will be leaving for the official tour on July 6. On his way for SCO summit, Modi is scheduled to visit Uzbekistan followed by Kazakhstan. On his way back from BRICS summit, he will be visiting Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in that order. Prime Minister will reportedly be returning to India on July 13.

Returning from the BRICS summit in Ufa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the first Centre for traditional medicine and Yoga at Turkmenistan. The ministry of external affairs has also indicated that on the sidelines of SCO summit, a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan’s counterpart could be possible.
