Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Dec 31: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minsiter Akhilesh Yadav is unlikely to attend foundation stone ceremony of Delhi-Meerut Expressway in Meerut today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation of the ambitious project today. The Expressway is a e 87 km project besides 9 km connector which will have 6 lane expressway and 4+4 lane highway. It will also have service roads, cycle tracks, flyovers, elevated sections, major and minor bridges. As per the government plan, railway overbridges, vehicular underpasses and pedestrian underpasses is also a part of the project.
While the total land required for three packages is 348.6 hectares of which 343.36 hectare has already been acquired. After the completion of 90 per cent land acquisition, new alignment of the expressway from Dasna to Meerut and six-laning of Connector will also be taken. Bids for the Delhi-Hapur section of NH-24 project on new hybrid annuity model were invited with bid due date as December 15. Discussing about the importance of the project, road transport and highways ministry in a statement said, “There is an urgent need for an expressway between Delhi and Meerut because NH-58, the only existing link between the two places is heavily congested with traffic.” Modi had launched three important highway projects worth Rs 10,166 crore to decongest Delhi last month.
