New Delhi, Aug 1: In an unfortunate incident, four people of a family had a narrow escape when the SUV they were travelling in fell into deep ditch on Wednesday. The incident occurred when they were going from Mumbai to Kannauj and suddenly a section of the Agra-Lucknow Expressway caved-in near Dauki police station.
A part of the service road of Agra-Lucknow Expressway caved in this morning after heavy rain, leading to the creation of a ditch.
According to reports, on Rachit, a resident of Kannauj, was returning to his native place from Mumbai along with other members of his family. Rachit said he was driving with the help of Google Map on his mobile phone. His phone battery was not charged and he entered a service lane of the highway. By the time he could realise that there was a huge crater ahead, his SUV fell into it.
Locals and police pulled out the occupants of the car with the help of a crane. However, no one was injured and more details are awaited in the accident. Reportedly, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a probe to find out the reason for the cave-in.
In another accident, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had helped accident victims lying in a pool of blood on Agra-Lucknow Expressway by getting them rushed to hospital in one of his convoy vehicles.
The Agra-Lucknow Expressway was built at an approximate cost of Rs 13,200 crore. The 303-km expressway was inaugurated by Akhilesh Yadav on 21 November 2016.
