Chandigarh, Aug 2: Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday accepted the invitation extended by Imran Khan for attending his swearing-in ceremony as the Prime Minister of Pakistan on August 11.
“It is (a) great honour, I accept the invitation. Men of genius are admired, men of power are feared, but men of character are trusted. Khan Sahab is a man of character. He can be trusted. Sportsmen build bridges, break barriers, unite people,” Sidhu said in a statement issued here.
Sidhu was among other personalities who had reportedly been invited by Khan to attend his oath-taking ceremony.
If reports are to be believed, Imran Khan has also invited Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev to attend his oath-taking ceremony.
The announcement was made by Imran during an interaction with party members of the provincial assembly in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Monday after which PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry told the media outside Pakistan’s Supreme Court.
Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has emerged as the single-largest party in the National Assembly after last week’s general election in the neighbouring country. The PTI bagged 116 general seats, which is 22 short of a simple majority. It is now reaching out to smaller political parties and independent candidates for support to form a coalition government.
