New Delhi, Dec 20: Former BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting between the two lasted for about 45 minutes. Earlier, speculations were being made that Sidhu might join Congress party after his wife Navjot Kaur joined Congress. It is also speculated that Sidhu might merge his party ‘Awaz-e-Punjab’ into Congress ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections 2017.
Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) on July 18, 2016 , as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Following this speculations were being made that he may join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) until he launched his own new political front ‘Awaaz-e-Punjab’ on September 8, 2016.
After launching Awaz-e-Punjab’ Sidhu had said that his party will contest all 117 assembly seats in the Punjab Assembly elections to be held in 2017. Later, he said his party won’t be a political outfit, it will be a forum for good governance and welcome any alliance that work for the betterment of Punjab. The Sidhu couple were involved in an internal battle with BJP. The couple were upset by the party’ decision to fight the next elections in an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
