While declaring the names, Mumbai NCP president Sachin Ahir said that his party was keen to have an alliance but the reluctance by Congress leaders led the party to take the decision to go solo in the elections.
Mumbai, Feb 4: Despite many meetings between Indian National Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Congress-NCP failed to join hands for the Mumbai civic polls. After failing in making an alliance with Congress, NCP declared to contest the elections for Asia’s richest civic polls alone.
Friday being the last date for filing nominations for 227 seats of BMC, NCP on Saturday released the list of its candidates for BMC elections. Out of the 227 seats in Mumbai, NCP is contesting on 177 seats. While declaring the names, Mumbai NCP president Sachin Ahir said that his party was keen to have an alliance but the reluctance by Congress leaders led the party to take the decision to go solo in the elections. The party is also confident of winning the maximum seats and forming the government in the municipal council. Following is the list of NCP candidates for BMC elections:

Despite the party failed to form an alliance with Congress for BMC elections, Congress and NCP have agreed of forming an alliance in the neighbouring Thane. For the 130 member Thane Municipal Corporations (TMC), an alliance between Congress and NCP was announced by senior Congress leader Narayan Rane and NCP leader Jeetendra Awhad. In TMC, NCP and Congress have 34 corporators each.
NCP will be contesting against parties like Shiv Sena, Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, Samajwadi Party and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).NCP is confident about forming its government in BMC all alone and it also indicated that the split between Shiv Sena and BJP will not affect its voters.
BMC elections for 227 seats will be conducted on February 21 and the results will be announced on February 23.
