New Delhi: Despite holding portfolios at the Centre, the political career of the three-time Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Narayan Dutt Tiwari, nearly came to an end when a couple of controversies came to the limelight. Tiwari, the only Uttarakhand Chief Minister to complete a full term, breathed his last on Thursday on his 93rd birthday. The controversies that tainted the long political career of Tiwari are the Andhra Pradesh Raj Bhavan sex scandal and the paternity suit filed against him when he was the Governor. The Congress party was embarrassed when a sting operation exposed Tiwari in a compromising position with women. In 2009, a Telugu channel aired a controversial footage of Tiwari with three women in Hyderabad’s Raj Bhavan. After the dirty laundry was aired in public, TDP president and current Andhra Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu demanded the immediate resignation of the Governor. The court later asked the private channel to stop airing the video. Also Read - Congress Leader Reshma Padekanura Found Dead Near Kolhar Village in Karnataka

In a statement, the Raj Bhavan had denied the footage and claimed, “The Governor is 86 years old and in the evening of his life. It is sad and unfortunate that constitutional functionaries are dragged into needless controversies.” Citing health reasons, Tiwari put in his papers and shifted to Dehradun. Another controversy which finally ended Tiwari’s political career was the paternity suit filed against him by Rohit Shekhar. Claiming to be Tiwari’s son, Shekhar petitioned in the Delhi High Court in 2008 seeking a paternity test to prove his claim. According to the test results which came in 2012, Shekhar was the biological son of Tiwari. Reports quoted Tiwari as saying, “I have every right to live my life my way. No one has the right to look into my private life. Please respect my privacy.” In 2014, Tiwari married Shekhar’s mother Ujjwala Sharma in Lucknow, finding a new family in the mother and son at the age of 88.
