Islamabad, July 13: National Security Adviser of Pakistan Sartaj Aziz appeared making a blatant u-turn on the issue of 26/11 trials. Reiterating Pakistan’s earlier stand, Aziz indicated that enough evidence has not been provided by India. “On Mumbai attack trials, our view has been and was so in the meeting as well, that we need more evidence,” he said. Aziz’s statement drew sharp criticism from BJP leader and former home secretary R K Singh. “Pakistan’s notorious spy agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) knows that if a proper investigation is done in Mumbai attacks case then many of its officers will be indicted.” Public prosecutor for the 2008 Mumbai terror attack case, Ujjwal Nikam dismissed the accusation of Pakistan NSA that India provided insufficient evidence. “We have provided ample amount of evidence. Conspiracy hatched on Pakistani soil. Whose responsibility is to gather evidence?” added Nikam.
India has been upset over the almost non-existent trial in the 2008 Mumbai attack case, with even the mastermind Zaki-ur-Rahman Lakhvi being released by the court as the Pakistan government failed to furnish required evidence. However, Pakistan has maintained that it needs more evidence and information from India to conclude the trial.
