July 24: The second phase of National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (NEET) 2016 will be held today. Approximately, 4.7 lakh students will appear for the exam which is the medical entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS. The Supreme Court decided the second phase of the exam to avoid inconvenience for students caught off guard by NEET becoming mandatory.  Students are advised to carry their admit card to the examination centre. The results of both phases of NEET I and NEET II will be announced by August 17. The admission procedure for the medical seats will begin after the results are declared. Counseling session for the NEET candidates would begin from August 18, 2016 and would continue till September 30, 2016. The apex court in April had decided to scrap All India Pre Medical test (AIPMT) as entrance test for medical courses in the country and implement NEET instead. The decision caused an uproar among students, state governments also urged the top court to let them conduct their own exam. However, the apex court turned down appeals by states seeking to conduct their own medical admission tests and ruled that only NEET would only enable students to get admission to MBBS or BDS courses.
