New Delhi, June 3: A 26-year old pregnant woman was strangled by her 37-year old husband in the national capital. Umesh, the husband of the deceased, later, tried to commit suicide by slashing his wrist in front of his two-year-old daughter. The couple got married five years ago and often picked up fights over husband’s drinking problem. The husband is currently battling for his life. The family got to know about the incident when they heard the couple’s daughter crying. When they arrived at the scene, they found Umesh lying in a pool of blood and Jyoti lying dead on the bed. “Umesh was unconscious when we found him and his wife was dead. The child too was covered in blood when we found them. The couple was rushed to the hospital where Umesh recovered later and told us that he had murdered Jyoti in a fit of rage,” Vir Pal, one of the relatives was quoted as saying in a media report. According to police, Umesh tried to hang himself with a  piece of cloth but failed to do so. So, he tried to slit his wrist. Police have registered a case against Umesh, the culprit under sections of murder. Jyoti’s autopsy was conducted at the AIIMS, after which, the body was handed over to the family. “My brother-in-law was addicted to alcohol due to which he could not save any money. When my sister became pregnant for the second time, he refused to take care of the child. They were fighting over this for the past few weeks,” Jyoti’s brother, Rahul said.
