The bodies of the deceased, 18-year-old Somnath Mahato and 19-year-old Abantika were found in the University’s campus at the Department of Chinese Language and Culture, popularly known as the Cheena Bhavana. Somnath had appeared for Higher Secondary Examinations this year while his wife Abantika had appeared for class 10 board examinations, he said. Prima facie it appears to be a suicide case but it can be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination, said a senior police officer at the Bolpur police station.

“Our security personnel informed us about the matter after they spotted the bodies near Cheena Bhavana,” the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Visva-Bharati, Anirban Sarkar, said. The PRO added that they will look into the matter and the authority may issue an order to find out how the couple had entered the campus late at night.
