New Delhi, June 3: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today conducted raids across Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi over terror funding from separatists in Pakistan, after registering an FIR against separatists such as Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and Lashkar founder Hafiz Saeed for creating chaos in Kashmir. Apart from Saeed and Geelani, in the FIR, the NIA has also named has named separatists Farooq Ahmed Dar, Naeem Khan and Javed Ahmed Baba. The NIA conducted the raids after converting a preliminary inquiry into terror funding in the Valley from Pakistan, into a regular case. The NIA raided a total of 21 locations in Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi, including 14 in Kashmir and 7 in Delhi. “NIA raids also underway against hawala operators, and at separatist leaders’ house, office and commercial locations,” sources told ANI. In Delhi, the raids were conducted at Greater Kailash, Pitampura and Ballimaran in Chandni Chowk.
NIA chief Sharad Kumar said that the raids were conducted in the early hours of Saturday morning and added that the raids will continue until afternoon. Sources have said that the raids are being conducted at the residences and offices of Hurriyat members and big hawala traders who were expected to have acted as a channel for funding terror activities and violence in Kashmir. According to the sources, the hawala traders have helped in channeling funds from Pakistan-based sources such as Lashkar-e-Tayyeba and other individuals to separatists to create chaos in Kashmir.
The money was being used to trigger violence, protests in the Valley. As per the sources, Geelani will be brought face to face with the other accused and questioned. Cash worth Rs 1.25 crore was recovered in the raid at a residential location in Kashmir by one of the NIA teams. Geelani and Hafeez were named in a preliminary inquiry on May 19 after the NIA began investigating an alleged operation to increase of stone pelting on security forces in the Valley.
A few days back, the NIA had questioned Hurriyat leaders Naeem Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar, and Javed Ahmed Baba at Srinagar and Delhi regarding their involvement in raising, collecting and transferring funds through hawala for terror funding in the Valley. According to the reports, Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), a charity run by terror outfits Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Al Rehmat Trust, are being backed by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), which have been supporting terrorists and funding terrorism in Kashmir.
The NIA officials said that these terror outfits collect money from Pakistan and then pass it on to finance terrorism in the Valley in Jammu and Kashmir. The NIA also said that ‘Al Rehmat Trust’ distributes pamphlets to raise funds to sacrifice animals during Eid and after collecting the money, they finance terrorism.
