NIA Team to Reach Philippines to Interrogate Indian-origin ISIS recruiter Karen Aisha Hamidon
Hamidon reportedly claimed before the department of justice in Manila that she was just a blogger against whom police had levelled false charges

New Delhi, Nov 5: A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) will be sent to Manila in Philippines to interrogate the 32-year-old woman recruiter for the Islamic State (IS) terror group, Karen Aisha Hamidon, who had radicalised many Indians through social media platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook since 2014.
As per the reports of Times of India, ministry of home affairs will soon send the proposal for the planned visit as officials believe Hamidon's interrogation could give necessary details about other Indian "foreign fighters" who may have joined IS in the last three years.
The Indian agencies had last year found that Hamidon used social media to influence many Indians and recruit 'foreign fighters' from India and other countries. Two Indian ISIS operatives had also claimed that they were influenced by Hamidon.
However, on Friday Hamidon reportedly claimed before the department of justice in Manila that she was just a blogger and a Muslim missionary against whom police had levelled false charges.
"I'm into journalistic articles, composition, and a writer ... I'm an Islamic propagator, I'm a Muslim missionary, the counterpart of a Christian missionary. I only use the social media as my avenue to spread the message of Islam for religious purposes, for maximum audiences," she had reportedly claimed.
Earlier last month, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) of the Philippines had arrested Hamidon named in radicalisation of Indian recruits from Manila. The investigating agency had last year sent letter rogatory (a judicial request) to Philippines seeking details and evidence on Hamidon. She was also named in two chargesheets filed by the NIA.
