New Delhi: The fourth and final death row convict in the gruesome Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case, Pawan Kumar Gupta, on Friday filed a curative plea before the Supreme Court. In his petition, Pawan Gupta sought commutation of his death penalty into a life imprisonment sentence, his counsel AP Singh said. Delhi’s Patiala House Court had signed fresh death warrants for the four accused giving them for the third time this month. The remaining three convicts have already exhausted their final legal remedies of filing a curative and the subsequent mercy plea with the President. Last week, convict Vinay Gupta had made yet another attempt to delay the hanging by trying to swallow staple pins inside his prison cell. However, prison officials managed to stop him just in time. The execution had already been postponed twice from previous dates of January 22 and February 1 as all legal remedies were not exhausted by the convicts.
