New Delhi: As the Supreme Court was hearing a case related to the execution of the Nirbhaya gangrape convicts, Justice R Banumathi fainted leading to chaos and panic inside the courtroom. They were hearing Centre’s plea for separate execution of the four Nirbhaya gangrape convicts. The hearing started soon after the same bench dismissed Vinay Sharma’s petition, challenging the rejection of his mercy plea by the President.
Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta urged the court that the pendency of Akshay’s filing a petition won’t come in the way of the issuance of a fresh date of execution.
“I am not an astrologer but on Monday there will be a petition by Akshay,” the SG said when Justice Banumathi fainted.
Justice R Banumathi was taken into the chamber immediately after she fainted during the hearing in 2012 Delhi gang-rape case in Supreme Court today. The bench has adjourned the case and says the order will be released later. “Justice R Banumathi was having high fever and she still has high fever. She is being examined by the doctors in the chamber. She was on medication when she was hearing the case,” the SG said.
