Nirbhaya Case: Pawan Was Beaten up in 2019, Counsel Wants FIR Against Police

New Delhi: As March 20 — the date on which the four convicts are scheduled to be hanged — is inching closer, a new case has come up as Pawan Gupta’s counsel AP Singh complained that Pawan was physically assaulted by two police personnel. This is not the first time that the issue has been raised. But this time, they approached a court seeking action against the jail authorities. On Thursday, a Delhi court has sought the Action Taken Report (ATR) from Mandoli Jail authorities.

A direction was given to the jail authorities to file the report by April 8. It was, however, clarified by the court that this direction won’t have a bearing on the hanging and the same won’t be stayed because of it, a TOI report said.

According to reports, the incident of physical assault took place in July inside jail number 14 in Central jail, Mandoli, when Pawan was thrashed very badly.

“Blood oozed from his head and only after repeated requests and a prolonged delay he was sent to GTB Hospital,” the plea claimed. It also said that at that time Pawan’s father approached the police, but was not entertained.
