New Delhi, December 20: A two-judge bench had been appointed by the Supreme Court to hear the plea against the release of juvenile in Nirbhaya gangrape case on Monday after there was a nation wide protest against his release. The plea will be heard at around 10:30 am on Monday by the judges in Supreme Court as Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal reached the apex court on Saturday midnight over the release of juvenile convict.Also Read - Nirbhaya Convicts Keep Mum on Their Last Wishes Before Hanging on February 1: Report
On Sunday evening the juvenile convict in the December 16, 2012 gangrape case recently turned 21, was released from Children Home on Sunday evening despite of huge protest carried out by the people in Delhi at India Gate along with the family members of Nirbhaya. He has been kept at Timarpaur correctional home in Delhi under an NGO who are taking care of the released accused. DCW chief Swati Maliwal reached the Apex Court on Saturday night after the commission decided to file a Special Leave Petition to stall the release of convict. Report suggest that the criminal record of juvenile has been expunged and the new identity of the convict will not be revealed. Meanwhile, parents of Jyoti Singh, the 23-year-old medical student who was brutally gangraped by six on the night of 16 December, 2012, are leading a protest rally at India Gate.
Asha Devi, mother of Jyoti Singh who gangraped by the juvenile and five others said to India Today TV, that the Centre and the Delhi government had failed them. “Today when I am forced to protest on street then only Supreme Court is approached, why not it was done before?”, asks Asha Devi.
The juvenile accused had called Jyoti in the bus saying “Didi ye bus Dwarka jayegi, aa jao (Sister this bus will go to Dwarka, please come in)”. But after Jyoti and her classmate and friend boarded the bus she was raped and murdered by the six of them present inside the moving vehicle. Jyoti’s friend was also injured during the incident.
