Nirbhaya’s Mother Has ‘Great Physique’, Can Imagine How She Would Have Been: Former DGP of Karnataka

Former DGP of Karnataka Police HT Sangliana stoked up a controversy on Thursday as he said that the mother of Nirbhaya, the victim of 2012 Delhi gangrape, has a 'great physique'.

New Delhi, Mar 15: Former DGP of Karnataka Police HT Sangliana stoked up a controversy on Thursday as he said that the mother of Nirbhaya, the victim of 2012 Delhi gangrape, has a ‘great physique’. “I see Nirbhaya’s mother, she has such a good physique. I can just imagine how beautiful Nirbhaya would have been,” he reportedly said during an award function that was meant to honour women. Sangliana also gave a few ‘safety tips’ to women. According to him, if a women is overpowered, she must surrender, instead of fighting back. ‘This way we can be safe, save life and prevent being killed,” he was quoted as saying in a report by Bangalore Mirror. Meanwhile,  Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi, while addressing the crowd, said that justice is something that does not come easy. “Nobody now is scared of the law. Law is not a deterrent,” she reportedly said.

In a crime that shook the nation from all directions, Nirbhaya was attacked by a group of six men aboard a moving bus in South Delhi. She was with a friend who was left brutally injured in the incident. The incident happened on the night of December 16, 2012.

Nirbhaya was brutalised with an iron rod and her intestines were pulled out by the attackers. She battled for life for 13 days and later, died in a Singapore hospital.

Out of the six accused, one Ram Singh was found hanging in his cell in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in March 2013. Among the convicts was a juvenile. He was released in December 2015.
