Patna, Dec 6: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its political arm, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicising the conflict surrounding Ram Janmbhoomi – Babri Masjid. The Janata Dal (United) leader expressed disgust against his political opponents for using a communally sensitive issue for electoral gains.
Criticising the slew of programs planned by BJP’s ideological affiliate, Vishwa Hindu Parishad in the Ayodhya to mark the 23rd anniversary of mosque demolition, Nitish said, “They are only politicising the issue for their gains. RSS, BJP and people linked to them are attempting to keep the issue alive, by constantly fuelling it through politics.” (ALSO READ: Babri Masjid demolition: Attack on secularism or majoritarian liberation?)
Nitish opines that the activities planned by BJP and the statements made it’s top brass is part of the campaign to divide Uttar Pradesh on communal lines ahead of the 2017 assemble elections. “Now that the elections in Uttar Pradesh are approaching, they have began their vicious campaigns to ignite communal passions. This issue will be given birth to divide the electorates along the lines of religion,” he added.
The Bihar chief minister had earlier too condemned the remarks made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat demanding the construction of Ram Temple at earliest. “None can say when and how the temple will be constructed, but we need to be prepared and ready. Apex court verdict and consensus between the two communities should pave the way for construction.”
