Patna, Oct 27: The Nitish Kumar government in yet another move to eradicate dowry and child marriage from the state announced that any employee indulging in these practices will be sacked. Although the Bihar Government employees have been made to take oath against dowry, in its implementation, certain lackings were observed and hence tightening the noose around the practices of dowry and child marriage, the government made the new announcement.

This is the latest move by the Bihar government in the drive against dowry and child marriage which was launched by Nitish Kumar earlier this month. As per reports, the CM said that he got the inspiration to run a campaign following a request made by women at his ‘Lok Samvad’ (public interaction).

According to Times Now, under the new scheme, directives will be sent to various departments and district administrations by the Bihar Women Development Corporation, which will ensure that the new scheme is strictly implemented at various levels.

A report by Navbharat Times claimed that other regulations will be put in place to discourage dowry and child marriage. Earlier the CM requested people to not attend marriages wherein dowry or child marriage is practised.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also launched a mobile application ‘Bandhan Tod’ to fight child marriage in the state. The app is aimed to create awareness on resisting child marriage and also provides round-the-clock help to adolescent girls saying no to the practice in the form of an SOS button.
