New Delhi, July 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nitish Kumar for breaking himself free from the grand alliance in Bihar, calling it a significant step in the fight against corruption.
“I congratulate Nitish Kumar to join the fight against corruption. 125 crore Indians are welcoming the step taken in favour of honesty and integrity,” Modi said on social media. He further added that time calls not only for Bihar, but the entire nation to rise above political differences and join the movement against corruption.

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan also welcomed Nitish Kumar’s decision to resign as Chief Minister of Bihar, saying it was a move against corruption.
“When the (coalition) government was formed, I had said it would not last for more than two and a half years,” Paswan tweeted.
Nitish, on Wednesday, after chairing the JD(U) legislature party meeting, went to the Raj Bhawan and submitted his resignation. While addressing the reporters outside Raj Bhawan, Nitish said, it was not possible for him to work under the grand alliance.
“Governor has accepted my resignation, and asked me to continue working till the next development,” Nitish Kumar said, further adding, “For today, I have submitted my resignation. There may be possibilities tomorrow to form government with in alliance with others.”
BJP Bihar unit, in the past month, had indicated the party’s decision to align with JD(U), in case of Nitish breaking free from the grand alliance. “We do not desire mid-term poll. We will support Nitish Kumar, without being part of the government,” said party’s state unit chief Nityanand Rai.
