Patna, Mar 1: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday denounced the controversial remark of minister Abdul Jalil Mastan on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On being asked about his reaction of Abdul Jalil Mastan’s controversial statement on Narendra Modi, Nitish Kumar said, “This is wrong.” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded Nitish Kumar to sack Abdul Jalil Mastan. Meanwhile, the minister has apologised for his comment on PM Modi. “I apologise if my statement or statements of my people have hurt anyone,” said Mastan.
Bihar minister Abdul Jalil Mastan sparked controversy when he was caught on camera asking a crowd gathered at a programme to protest the Centre’s demonetization move and to beat the photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with shoes. In the video, Mastan, who is the state Excise and Prohibition minister, was heard telling the crowd that it was the PM who had said that if he failed to end people’s woes within 50 days of demonetization, he was prepared to face any punishment.
The video shows the MLA telling the people to beat the PM’s photograph with shoes. A few supporters then beat the photograph of the PM kept on a chair on the stage with shoes while the minister was present on the dais.
Notably, Nitish Kumar’s reaction on Abdul Jalil Mastan’s controversial statement came on the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the Bihar Chief Minister on his birthday. “Spoke to Shri Nitish Kumar and wished him on his birthday. May he be blessed with a long life filled with good health,” Modi tweeted.
Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) leader, was born on this day in 1951. Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar had shared bitter relations till recently when both leaders praised each other at an event in Bihar. Nitish was the only non-NDA chief minister to back Modi’s demonetisation policy. Later, Narendra Modi had praised Nitish for imposing liquor prohibition in the state and the arrangements put in place for celebrating the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.
