Patna, April 19: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday promised to support Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Prime Minister Candidature. When Lalu Yadav was asked who will RJD support as the PM candidate in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, he said that, “There is no doubt that RJD will support Nitish Kumar as PM in the elections.” (Haan haan zaroor, iss mein kya do rai hai)
Since the victory of Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar’s Mahagathbandhan during the Bihar Assembly Elections 2015, the alliance had been critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier, there were also reports that a Third front led by Nitish Kumar comprising of regional parties will soon be formed. During the Lok Sabha elections 2014, Nitish broke ties with BJP after they elevated Modi as the Prime Minister candidate.
BJP had blamed Nitish Kumar’s political ambitions for the collapse of the alliance between BJP and JDU in Bihar. Nitish Kumar’ posture in the elections may become a setback for the Congress which would have preferred to showcase Congress vice president as the only strong force against Modi in the 2019 parliamentary elections. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar received huge support from women of Bihar by banning alcohol in the state. Following the success of ban, similar demands were triggered by women in the states of Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
