Patna, July 27: Janata Dal United (JDU) supremo Nitish Kumar will take oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the sixth time on Thursday at 10 am after resigning from the post on Wednesday over the RJD’s muted response on corruption charges against Tejashwi Yadav. “From my side, I never wanted to break the grand alliance. I wanted them to either make him (Tejashwi) resign, or explain the charges in the public. But since, there was no explanation on the charges, it was difficult for us to continue,” the former CM reportedly said.
According to reports, Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi will administer oath to Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister of Bihar at 10 am. Reportedly, Sushil Modi will be sworn-in as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) extended support to Nitish, shortly after he broke himself free from the mahagathbandhan which includes the Congress and the Rashstriya Janata Dal.
Noteworthy, Tejashwi Yadav tagged Nitish Kumar’s resignation and the developments following it as pre-planned and said that they have requested Bihar Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi to stall the swearing-in ceremony and give the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) a chance to prove majority on the floor.
Soon after the Nitish’s resignation as Bihar Chief Minister, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the leader for his decision. He termed Nitish’s decision as a valorous step in fight against corruption. “1.25 crore people are welcoming and supporting his honesty. For the bright future of the country, and especially Bihar, it is the need of the hour to rise above political differences and join the fight against corruption,” Modi tweeted.
Meanwhile, RJD chief Lalu Prasad retaliated to the corruption charges levelled against Tejashwi Yadav. “Nitish is booked under section 302 of the IPC. If convicted, he would have to serve life in the prison. If there is such a serious charge against him, then why did he made himself the chief minister?”
Speaking to India Today in an exclusive interview on the ongoing political turmoil in Bihar, Nitish Kumar denied that the swearing-in was not a rushed one. He also claimed that he tried saving the alliance till the end and for that matter, he even spoke to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and RJD chief Lalu Prasad.

Meanwhile, Sharad Yadav meets Rahul Gandhi. He will meet JD(U) leader Ali Anwar at 5 pm today.
Tejashwi Yadav dares Nitish Kumar to fight elections, says 12 crore people of Bihar are with RJD-Congress. “They voted for Mahagathbandhan and against Modi-Amit Shah,” he said.
“We were ready for investigation, told Nitish Kumar too. We have been used as a bait by Nitish Kumar to gain more power,” says Tejashwi Yadav
“Was never asked to resign. Was ready to give an explanation,” Tejashwi Yadav said to India Today.
Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav says that Nitish Kumar plotted his exit. “This was a well-planned plot,” he said.
