New Delhi, July 20: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Jayadev Galla moved the no-confidence motion in Parliament and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of breaking the promises of granting “special category” status to Andhra Pradesh he had made four years ago. “The saga of Andhra Pradesh during this Modi-Shah regime is a saga of empty promises,” he said. Claiming that the Centre had favoured the neighbouring states, Galla said that Andhra Pradesh was projected to tremendous challenges when it needed reliefs. “The last four years have posed tremendous challenges to Andhra Pradesh. When the state needed relief, the Modi government threw new challenges at Andhra Pradesh and to its five crore people,” Galla said in the Lok Sabha. He further claimed that all the opposition parties agree on the injustice to the state and the way it was divided with many assets. He further accused both the national parties of crippling the state of Andhra Pradesh.
“Mr Modi while campaigning in Andhra Pradesh had said ‘Congress killed the mother and saved the child. Had I have been there, I would have saved the mother too’. People of AP have waited for 4 long yrs for him to save their mother,” Galla said.
Explaining further on how Andhra Pradesh lacked on funds and facilities, the TDP MP said that after the bifurcation, the state was reduced to an agrarian state but it didn’t generate much revenue like it does to the other neighbouring states (Telangana and Tamil Nadu). “Despite growing at the fastest pace, the gap in per capita income is clearly visible and if this continues it will only widen,” he said. “In services, while AP generates 46 per cent revenue, Telangana generates 56 while TN generates 57 per cent.
The TDP MP also said that after bifurcation, 90 per cent of institutions have gone to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is left with no institute of national reputation.
Claiming that the people of Andhra Pradesh would give a befitting reply to PM Modi in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Galla said that the PM is “singing a tune the people of AP are keenly observing”. “…and they would give a befitting reply in coming polls. BJP will be decimated in AP the way Congress was if people of AP are cheated. Mr PM, it’s not a threat, it’s a shraap,” he said. Galla’s statements were opposed by the TRS MPs.
