Noida, June 3: In a case of  apathy, a 5-month pregnant woman was tied up to a cowshed at her home in Noida by her husband and in-laws in order to force the woman’s family for dowry. The woman was rescued by the police later and rushed to Kailash Hospital and was placed under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Officials at the hospital said that the woman was in a state of depression when she bought to the hospital but became stable later.

The incident came to light after the woman’s father lodged an FIR  at Noida Sector 39 police station on June 1 stating that her daughter was missing. The father said in a statement that her daughter had been missing from the night of May 31. He added that her in-laws had been harassing her from the last five months demanding dowry. They had on several occasions thrashed her as well. Elaborating on the matter, the woman’s father said that his daughter got married last year in December and they began harassing her a month after. He recalled and said that the night before the complaint, her father-in-law had called to tell him about his son and her daughter-in-law’s fight and had also called him over to intervene. He said that since he couldn’t go to his daughter’s house at that moment, he called her up. Later that evening he received a call from her in-laws saying that her daughter had gone missing.

“I went out with some people to look for her in the area around their house but couldn’t find her,” said the father. He said that the groom’s family was given Rs. 15.5 lakh, a refrigerator and a washing machine at the time of the wedding and an additional Rs. 20 lakh to buy a Toyota Fortuner which they wanted to buy. They also demanded a double-door refrigerator later and were obliged with that as well, said the father.

As of now, the police have arrested the woman’s in-laws and his brother and have charged them under IPC Section 498A for demanding dowry and subjecting the woman to torture. The woman’s husband is been missing. Anil Kumar Sahi, SHO, Noida Sector 39 police station said that they found the woman unconscious last Saturday at 8 pm in the evening.
