New Delhi, June 2: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday said that nothing is more condemnable than an attack on the security forces. ANI reported Singh saying, “There has been a practice in Kashmir centric political circles to make security forces a soft target but they don’t have courage and conviction to call a terrorist, terrorist.”

His comments came after the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, tweeted, “Earlier they tied people to the fronts of jeeps & paraded them around villages to deter protestors now they just drive their jeeps right over protestors. Is this your new SOP @MehboobaMufti sahiba? Ceasefire means no guns so use jeeps?”

On Friday, the CRPF vehicle accidentally strayed into an area crowded with protesters. The angry mob encircled the vehicle after which the ‘nervous’ driver lost his control, in an attempt to get quickly away. In the incident, a youth was killed and two were injured. The police officer said that it was totally unintentional. Several photographs showing the vehicle running over the Kashmiri youth are doing rounds on social media.  Reports of the clash were also reported from the valley.

Many other leaders too condemned this incident. Notably, the incident took place days before Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s scheduled to visit the valley. Rajnath Singh will be visiting the strife-torn valley to review the security situation. Reports claimed that this incident could deter the Modi government’s renewed efforts to reach out to Kashmiri youth after announcing the Ramzan relief.
