New Delhi, June 3: India successfully test fired its nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-5 from Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Abdul Kalam Island, formerly known as Wheeler Island in Balasore district of Odisha on Sunday. The surface-to-surface missile was launched with the help of a mobile launcher at around 9: 50 AM from launch pad number 4.
“The flight performance of the missile was tracked and monitored by radars, tracking instruments and observation stations all through the mission,” defence sources said. Unlike other missiles of the series, Agni-5 is the most advanced with new technologies in terms of navigation and guidance, warhead and engine.
Notably, this was the sixth time the Agni-5 missile was tested successfully. Earlier this year on January 18, Agni 5 was tested successfully with a strike range of 5,000 km that can reach almost all parts of China. The sleek missile was test-fired from a canister launcher, mounted on a mobile platform,from No. 4 launch pad of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Abdul Kalam Island.
Agni-5 is most advanced missile in the Agni series with new technologies incorporated in it in terms of navigation and guidance, warhead and engine. It has a range of over 5000 km. If reports are to be believed, the ballistic missile has been made in a manner that after reaching the peak of its trajectory it will head down to the earth’s surface, towards the target, with increased speed due to the gravitational pull.
