Obama in India, Day 2 Live News Update: Narendra Modi, Barack Obama complete address at CEO summit

US President Barack Obama expressed his gratitude for the hospitality shown by India. He also appreciates the Republic Day parade.

7.50 pm News Update: “We can work together to develop new technologies that will help India move forward. We need to make sure economic growth of both countries is inclusive and sustained. Growth cannot just be measured by GDP, it has to make people’s life better in more tangible and lasting ways,” Obama expressed.

7.45 pm News Update: “We can work together to develop new technologies that will help India move forward. We have to keep working to make it easier to do business together. We have taken another big step forward in Defence cooperation,we have agreed to resume dialogue on bilateral investment treaty,” said US President.

7.35 pm News Update: US President Barack Obama expressed his gratitude for the hospitality shown by India. He also appreciates the Republic Day parade.  Addressing the CEOs, Obama said, ” Republic Day parade was spectacular. I am proud to address businessmen of both the countries. Fortunes of India and US are linked together. Investment and trade will benefit both countries.”

7.30 pm News Update: “We have energy of our youth, enterprise of our business and genius of farmers. In the world of economies,numbers are often an unforgiving mirror to performance,our economic growth has increased by a percentage point. India will be an important anchor of stability for global economy. Prosperity is no guarantee for peace, but India sees World as one family, and we wish to share our values,” said the Prime Minister.

7.15 pm News Update: Addressing the India-US CEO summit, Narendra Modi greets the nation 66th Republic Day. “India and US are two nations blessed with rich inheritance. Journey for India is impressive but is still long,” said Modi, Inviting US investors, Modi said, “We will cooperate and provide open environment for projects. We will make it easy to do business by ending roadblocks.”   

7.10 pm News Update: Modi focuses on ease of dream business that will bring about the desired change in the business environment. He also urged to improve purchasing power of India through investment in infrastructure.

 7.05 pm News Update: Prime Minister Narendra Modi says state should be policy driven and consistent when it comes to doing business. As far as intellectual property rights is concerned, a joint forum of Indo-US has been formed and the two countries will address the issue. We agree to initiate ease in business policy to boost investment.

7.00 pm News Update: Addressing the India-US CEO summit, US President Barack Obama said, “We want to see more trade & investment, it will benefit people of India and US  and I am excited that not only the US is investing in India but a lot of Indians are investing in the US too.”

6.45 pm News Update: “PMO will monitor all the big projects,” said Narendra Modi while addressing India-US CEO summit. Narendra Modi also said that to boost purchasing power in India, the country needs to improve economy and only way to improve is heavy investment in infrastructure  and agriculture.

6.30 pm News Update: Barack Obama and Narendra Modi are attending India-US summit at Taj Palace. Top businessmen before the meeting have expressed confidence about the outcome.

6.15 pm News Update: The India-US CEO talks is under-way. Narendra Modi and Barack Obama are attending the CEO meeting. HSBC India Head, Naina Lal Kidwai said that there is need of investment around 6 lakh crore in renewable energy.

5.30 pm News Update: Barack Obama and Narendra Modi attends India-US CEOs round-table forum. Arun Jaitley and Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are also expected to attend the meeting. Modi-Obama will address business giants on trade and economic issues, including visa, totalisation pact and impediments hampering investments.

Industry leaders who are expected to participate in the meeting include Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Bharti Enterprises chief Sunil Mittal, ICICI Bank MD & CEO Chanda Kochhar, Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani, Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka, Adani Group head Gautam Adani, Shashi Ruia, Chairman of Essar Group, Mahindra & Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra, Hari Bhartia, Co-chariman and and Director of Jubilant Life Sciences, Biocon Chairman and and MD Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Sudhir Mehta of Torrent Pharma.

5.00 pm News Update: While attending At Home function, Barack Obama was seen having friendly conversation with Narendra Modi, Vice President Hamid Ansari’s wife Salma Ansari and other guests. Former PM Dr Manmohan Singh also attended the event but did not interact with US President.

4.15 pm News Update: US President Barack Obama reached Rashtrapati Bhawan to attend ‘At Home’ programme with President Pranab Mukherjee, PM Narendra Modi and several other dignitaries. Obama and Michelle are meeting cabinet ministers, states’ chief ministers and other eminent personalities present at the event. At Home function is hosted by Pranab Mukherjee.

3.45 pm News Update: Narendra Modi and Barack Obama will jointly address the CEO’s business forum meeting at 5 pm. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are also expected to attend the meeting. Modi-Obama will address business giants on trade and economic issues, including visa, totalisation pact and impediments hampering investments.

12.30 pm News Update: The Republic Day ceremony has come to end. President Barack Obama who attended the Republic Day parade as the chief guest will now move to Hotel Maurya Sheraton. Obama is scheduled to meet Narendra Modi at 7 Race Course Road at 1 pm. Once again, Obama will visit Rashtrapati Bhavan at 4 pm and then attend CEO’s business forum at Taj Palace.

12.oo noon News Update: US President Barack Obama is keenly watching the Republic Day parade at Rajpath. People are seen performing various cultural acts depicting different states of India as a part of the celebrations braving the cold and the wet day. Obama is seen clapping and praising the acts and performances.

10.30 News Update: The Ceremonial parade for Republic Day has begun at Rajpath. The parade is being lead by Lt. General Subroto Mitra. Major General Abhay Krishna, Chief of Staff, Delhi Area is the parade Second-in-Command. MI-4 helicopters are showcased during the parade. The Indian Army’s laser guided missile capability T-90 “Bheeshma” tank, infantry combat vehicle BMP II (Sarath) followed by T-72 with Trawl are presented in parade.

10.15 News Update: President Pranab Mukherjee raised the national flag. PM Narendra Modi, US President Barack Obama, and Vice President Hamid Ansari are present at the event. After flag hoisting, awards are being given to the selected soldiers and citizens. President presented Ashok Chakra to Mukund Varadarajan and Naik Neeraj Kumar Singh (Posthumous).

10.oo am News Update: US President Barack Obama has reached Rajpath to attend the 66th Republic Day as the chief guest. First lady of US, Michelle Obama is also at the event. President Pranab Mukherjee also have reached to raise the national flag at Rajpath. Vice President Hamid Ansari and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar are among the other dignitaries. 9.45 am News Update: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate to pay homage to the immortal soldiers of the country who scarified their lives for the nation. President Pranab Mukherjee is heading towards Rajpath to raise the national flag. Lakhs of Indians have gathered to attend the Republic Day ceremony.

9.00 am News Update: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to everybody on the occasion of Republic Day. The Prime Minister took to twitter to greet the nation. “Greetings to everyone on Republic Day,” he posted, also tweeting the message in Hindi. January 26, 2015, marks 66th Republic Day of the nation.

8.30 am News Update: The Republic Day celebration will kick off shortly with arrival of the President Pranab Mukherjee, escorted by a pose of bodyguards on horses. Then PM Narendra Modi will lay a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate to pay homage to those who lost their lives in war. The President will raise the National flag as the National Anthem will be played, and a 21-gun salute will be given. All security measurements are in place. Around two hundred security personnel will guard the main stage, where Barack Obama and other guests will sit.
