In July 2010, the senior leader was elected to Rajya Sabha.



Parida was born in Jajpur in 1941. He was a member of the Communist Party of India (CPI) from 1960 to 1992, but later quit the party due to some differences.

In 1993, he became the member of Indian National Congress (INC), and served the party till 1998. In 1999, he joined Samajwadi Party in 1999 as its State President; he resigned from the party in 2008. In 2008, he joined the BJD.
