Bhubaneshwar, Apr 23: A six-year-old girl was subjected to rape, strangulation when she had gone to buy biscuits on Saturday. After being raped, she was left on a school campus in a village in Cuttack district of Odisha. The girl has suffered multiple injuries and her condition is said to be critical. A 25-year-old man was arrested in this connection on Sunday.
When the girl didn’t return home, her family began a search for her. They searched for over an hour and spotted her lying unconscious and unclothed on the school campus. Her head and mouth were bleeding. “The alleged rapist had left her in that state presuming she was dead,” police reportedly said.
She was later rushed to a private nursing home due to its close proximity. However, she was later shifted to Cuttack’s SCB Medical College and Hospital. Doctors said she has deep injuries on her head, face, neck, chest, and private parts.
The accused who was arrested belonged to the victim’s native village, Jagannathpur. He has been charged for rape and attempt to murder. The case was filed by the girl’s grandfather. The girl is being treated by a team of around 13 doctors from several departments.
Recently, due to growing cases of rape in the country, Center on Saturday cleared an ordinance that will award death penalty to the convicts for raping minors.
