Bhubaneshwar: Five students were grounded at KIIT University, following a scuffle between students over the alleged harassment of a female student at the varsity. In the clash which broke out between two group of students, several cops were reported to be injured. In the wake of the clash, students were banned from gathering in huge numbers on the campus.

A second-year engineering student allegedly made his advances at a final year law student. Following the incident, students were seen vandalising campus property and hurling stones at each other. The students were also seen beating students cornered in an elevator, NDTV reported.

As a precautionary measure, two hostels at the university have also been vacated. However, classes are running smoothly.

In a statement released by Odisha University, the varsity made it clear that no one has died in the incident and instances of fatality are just rumours.

“Students of two groups clashed yesterday over an issue of eve-teasing on Nov 23. As a precautionary measure, two hostels affected have been vacated. As it’s a matter of clash between two groups of students, the university hasn’t been closed Sine Die. Classes are functioning normally,” the varsity said in a statement. “A few students received minor injuries. They’ve been discharged after first-aid. Rumours of fatality are false. KIIT has a policy of zero tolerance towards such unruly actions and necessary steps have been taken,” it added.
