Ghaziabad, July 9: A cab driver employed with Uber has been arrested for a raping a woman at his house in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place on Thursday but Kamal Kumar, the driver was arrested on Saturday as the victim had a hard time recalling the entire incident due to short term memory. The victim lived in Kalyanpuri which falls in East Delhi and on Thursday, she was circling around in the vicinity of Karkardooma Courts for some work. The cops told that she met the cab driver outside the Court premises and asked for a job. The 45-year-old driver gave her some hope saying that there might be something for the 38-year-old unemployed lady but first he had to confirm it with his wife. After giving the lady rays of some hopes, he took her to his residence and raped her there. Also, he hammered the lady brutally.  Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav said that after producing the heinous crime the Uber cab driver dropped her back to the Karkardooma Court. The woman alleged about the rape incident at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Kalyanpuri in the national capital after which the hospital staff rang up the police to inform them about the incident. Many areas of the national capital were searched to fetch the accused but till now he hasn’t been traced. Later, the cops told that woman was taken to Ghaziabad to remember and identify the exact edifice where the incident took place. She identified the place which was Gokuldham Society in Ghaziabad.

Kumar has been married twice and has four children. He works as a driver with Uber, the officer added.

Uber has a bad name and safety of woman is a concern with the cab company. Earlier in 2014, the cabs of the company were banned after  Shiv Kumar Yadav, a driver of the company raped a woman. He was convicted of rape and sentenced to life in prison later. The victim in this incident as per recent reports is suing the company.
