New Delhi: The counting of votes for Okhla constituency in Delhi is currently underway. Two things made Okhla constituency crucial– One was Congress candidate Pervez Hashmi and the second issue as Shaheen Bagh, the epicentre of the anti-CAA protests in Delhi, which falls under this constituency.
Notably, Former Rajya Sabha MP Pervez is a winning horse of the Congress who, in fact, won the Okhla seat thrice in the past — in 1993 from Janta Dal and in 1998 and 2003 from the grand old party.
In 2015, Aam Aadmi Party leader Amanatullah had won the seat and BJP’s Bramha Singh finished second. In 2013, AAP’s Irfanullah Khan was the runner up while Congress’s Asif Mohd Khan won.
This time AAP’s Amanatullah Khan faced tough challenge from BJP’s Bramha Singh and Congress’ Pervez Hashmi.
