A Muslim under trial lodged in New Delhi's Tihar Jail has knocked the doors of a court after a prison superintended engraved 'Om' symbol on his back.

New Delhi: In a shocking case of brutality, a Tihar Jail under trial complained at the Karkadooma court that one prison superintendent Rajesh Chauhan forcefully burn imprinted Om symbol on his back, knowing he is a Muslim.

An order by the court read that an Om symbol was burned onto the back of the victim man forcefully after which he was also starved for two days.

The Tihar Jail DG has now sought a report on the incident. News agency ANI quoted, “DIG conducting the enquiry. Inmate shifted to another jail. A detailed report will be submitted to the court.”

The victim also accused prison authorities of meting out inhuman treatment to him.

An order by the court read, “The allegations raised by the accused are of serious nature and required immediate intervention… a notice is being issued to DGP, Prisoner, Head Quarter, Jail No. 4, New Delhi to get the medical examination of accused Nabbir conducted with immediate effect and also to make enquiry report regarding the burn imprinted ‘Om’ mark on the person of the accused.”

It said that necessary CCTV footage will be obtained and some inmates will be spoken to as part of the investigation.
