Dear Mr Khurshid,
In due context to your observations in recent times. While you have been a noted diplomat and served in several distinguished portfolios in the past, Why do you always play the devil’s advocate whenever and wherever? Last month you were in a Pakistan when our hostile neighbors had invited you for a program at the Jinnah institute in Islamabad, you criticized and blamed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not doing enough to preserve good relations between the two countries. Did you forget the way our Prime Minister invited him during his swearing in ceremony and despite several ceasefire violations from their army and constant shelling across the border.
Strangely you even found compatriots like one from your own party in the form of Manni Shankar Aiyar who also found it appealing to suggest that Modi has to be voted out of power for us to have good relations with our inclement neighbors in the west. Why do you not lament about Pakistan not doing enough to bring people like Zaki ur Rehman,Hafeez Saeed be brought to justice for their instinctive perpetration of Mumbai during the 2008,November 26 attacks. Does that also evoke any sort of reaction inside your mind about doing enough to bring the main people to justice for the mayhem they caused in the streets of Mumbai. Its been 7 years what have they done? When you undertook a visit why were you playing domestic politics on foreign shores and especially in a destination like that. Did you not think about India’s solidarity,integrity and unity before making such tall claims. (ALSO READ : BJP demands explanation about Salman Khurshid’s statement)
Tell me something, when you were at the helm of affairs in the External Affairs Ministry, Did we have the best of relations? Nawaz Sharif got elected in 2013 and not 2014 when you got smashed and smothered out of power with the ruling government NDA absolutely ruling the roost. Arent your observations a little bit condescending given the fact that the UPA government under your astute and revered leadership could not bring Pakistan to a settlement on any issues despite several efforts.
Infact we never saw any sort of effort from the Pakistani end as you kept trying to talk about .It is now that the world is actually taking most notice about India’s might and extent despite any sort of shortcomings which we might have faced in the past.
Let me also tell you that India has never initiated or engaged in any sort of misadventure or aggression during the many occasions when the country faced invasion from your ever so good neighbor. One also takes this opportunity to remind you or I reckon you know of it already regarding the aspect of Kashmir which they keep prodding about from time to time in International forums, Have you asked questions on them during your ‘friendly’ visit? or did it seemingly feel unnecessary.
I believe the next time you undertake a visit of this nature a few of these questions should be worthy of your contemplation,comprehension and expression.
