Srinagar, Aug 28: Opposition PDP, BJP and National Panthers Party (NPP) today staged walkouts from the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over different issues like discrimination in allotment of development funds to constituencies, rejection of resolution on rehabilitation of refugees from West Pakistan and rising inflation. NPP MLAs supported by CPI(M)’s M Y Tarigami staged the first walkout from the House after Speaker Mubarak Gul rejected the adjournment motion for discussing inflation and price rise in the state. NPP members shouted slogans like ‘control inflation’, ‘control price rise’, ‘do justice to poor’ and ‘stop hoarding’ before storming into the Well of the House seeking suspension of regular business. They also staged a brief dharna on the floor. As the Speaker refused to give in to their demand, the MLAs joined by Tarigami staged walkout. PDP MLAs, except Syed Bashiruddin, staged the second walk out after they were not satisfied with the government’s reply on allocation of development funds to various constituencies in the absence of sanction of annual plan by the Centre. PDP MLA Chaudhary Zulfikar alleged that 50 per cent of plan allocation was being appropriated for constituencies represented by the ministers while other segments were being neglected.

Soon after the Question Hour, BJP MLAs rose to their feet and demanded that the House pass a resolution to condemn the ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control.
