New Delhi: Though the Holi celebrations in Mumbai were subdued because of the coronavirus outbreak, Mumbai Police on Tuesday said that the police personnel managed to catch over 4,600 traffic offenders, including 336 for drunk driving. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Madhukar Pandey told news agency PTI that 1,285 people were caught for the speed violation, 286 for riding triple-seat, 2,656 for riding without helmets, while 336 were held for drunk driving. Police further said that 4,612 people were held for traffic offences in the metropolis between late Monday night and 5 PM on Tuesday.
“Those who were caught for drunk driving have had their licences seized. They will be produced in court on Wednesday for further action,” JCP Pandey further informed.
To keep an eye on the traffic management, several thousand CCTV cameras were installed along the roads and at traffic junctions.
Police said that the CCTVs were particularly handy in catching the speeding motorists as well as two-wheeler riders without helmets.
