New Delhi, Oct 28: Union minister Smriti Irani today lashed out at P Chidambaram for his comments on Kashmir saying that the senior Congress leader spoke about “breaking the Union of India into pieces”. “I think it is quite shocking and disgusting that P Chidambaram today speaks about breaking the Union of India into pieces,” Irani was quoted as saying by ANI.
Irani also said that the Congress party and Chidambaram support those who “actually murdered our security forces just so that they can play havoc with law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir”. “Though I am not surprised because Mr Chidambaram reflects the Congress mentality,” she added.

Smriti Irani also slammed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi saying he supported those who had raised anti-India statements at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). “He (Rahul) is known to have supported those people who had given the statement ‘Bharat Tere Tukde Honge’ in JNU crisis,” she said.
Irani also questioned the motive of the Congress party. “What message the Congress is trying to give?” she asked, adding, “political gain they are willing to sacrifice nationhood.” She also said that they (the Congress) is talking about “azadi” on a land which gave us Sardar Patel. “For them to talk abt Azadi on a land that gave us Sardar Patel, he gave entire life to make sure India stood united under 1 constitution,” ANI quoted her as saying.
Earlier in the day, former Home Minister P Chidambaram said that through his interactions in Jammu and Kashmir, he concluded that most people want “autonomy” when they demand “azadi”. “My interactions in J&K led me to the conclusion that when they ask for ‘Azadi’, most people want autonomy,” he said.
“Must consider areas to give autonomy to J&K. It’ll remain part of India but will have larger powers as promised under Art 370,” he added. (Also Read: Ahmed Patel Was a Trustee of Hospital, he Resigned in 2015, Says P Chidambaram)
Chidambaram also came in support of Ahmed Patel, who has been attacked by the BJP, following the arrest of a suspected ISIS operative who used to work at a hospital where Patel was a trustee. “I have gathered some facts from my friends. Ahmed Patel was a trustee of a hospital, I believe he resigned or retired in 2015,” he said.
