Raipur, August 3: The multi-crore paddy scam in Chhattisgarh is turning sinister similar to the Vyapam scam. The primary whistleblower, Surendra Shakya was mysteriously found dead in his Jabalpur home. Prelimanry inquiry by the state police indicate it as a case of suicide. However, the kin of deceased whistleblower alleged foul play in his death.
“My father was a man of ethics who died upholding honesty. We failed to save his life from scamsters. I will fight for justice so that my his soul rests in peace,” said the elder-most son of Surendra Shakya. The family members of Shakya have dismissed the suicide theory put forward by the police. “He cycled to Kashmir from Gwalior, alone. Why will such a gutsy man commit suicide? People involved in the scam are dangerous and can go to any extent to bury the scam,” added Nitin Shakya, son of the whistlebower.
However, the police has downplayed his death as a simple case of suicide. They claim to have found a two-page suicide note from the spot where Shakya died. (ALSO READ: Chhattisgarh PDS scam: Congress demands Raman Singh’s resignation)
Interestingly, one of Shakya’s colleague who attended his funeral was killed in a road-accident on his way back. The accident took place at Lalit-Sagar National Highway on Saturday. The Uttar Pradesh Police has booked a case of hit and run against the culprits, who are yet to be traced.
