Panaji, Jan 10: While Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Rajasthan banned Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’, now titled ‘Padmavat’, another BJP-ruled state has no issue with the screening of the film. Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said his government does not have a problem to screen ‘Padmavat’ in cinema halls in the state as the film has a censor certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).Also Read - Goa Lockdown Update: Goa Extends Coronavirus Curfew Till THIS DATE | Details

“If they have a censor certificate we do not have objection. If there is a law and order issue, we will look at it then,” Manohar Parrikar told reporters. However, the Chief Minister said the state police cautioned the government about the release of ‘Padmavat’ during the peak tourism season as a large number of policemen were busy discharging law and order duties. “Police report was for peak season. Peak season is over, so there is no problem,” Parrikar said. Also Read - Goa Extends Statewide Curfew Till July 26, With Same Restrictions and Relaxations

Earlier, a delegation of Goa Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Mahila Morcha submitted a memorandum to CM Manohar Parrikar demanding a ban on the screening of ‘Padmavat’. ‘Padmavat’ will hit the big screen on January 25. The movie, based on the legend of Hindu Rajput queen Rani Padmini, has been facing protests from various groups, particularly Shri Rajput Karni Sena, for allegedly tampering with historical facts. After much controversy and delay, the CBFC finally certified ‘Padmavat’, clearing the path for its release in cinema halls. However, an official confirmation by the makers is awaited. The Karni Sena has been adamant on its demand for a complete ban on ‘Padmavat’ and threatened the makers of dire consequences if it was released on January 25.

‘Padmavat’ features Deepika Padukone in the title role as Rani Padmavati, alongside Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji with Aditi Rao Hydari and Jim Sarbh in supporting roles.
